CLJS releases inCulto Concert CD

Autorius: Moacir @ 15:34

Inculto CD

Mes išleidom kompaktinį diską, Welcome to America!

CLJS proudly announces the release of their first concert CD, Welcome to America. This CD is a collection of songs recorded at the CLJS inCulto concert in November, 2006. We asked the band’s sound engineer to arrange a SBD / AUD mix for us, and it came out wonderfully. We have two brief excerpts: “Vanilla” and “Suk, suk ratelį.”

This was a small print run, so we encourage people to order their copies quickly. They cost $7.50 plus a shipping and handling fee. You can purchse the disc by filling out this form. We accept payment by PayPal or credit card.

We will also be selling the CD at Kaziuko Mugė in Lemont this upcoming weekend.

Autorius: Moacir @ 12:58

CLJS thanks everyone who participated in our small (yet fun and successful) New Year’s Eve Party at the Hilton Garden Inn. To everyone who did not make it, you missed a great time with lots of laughs, but we still wish you a happy new year!

We’re working on our plans for the upcoming year, so expect to see about three events this year, plus some more surprises as our minions travel along with you all to Los Angeles for Šokių šventė and other events.

New Year’s Eve in Chicago!

Autorius: Moacir @ 13:27

First: Please stay tuned for important news regarding Turkey Weekend

CLJS is welcoming 2008 with an event in Chicago this year. This counts as an unofficial announcement, a leak, a confirmed rumor, whatever.

We do not yet have a hotel chosen, a price set, or anything like that, but we are in negotiations with a few hotels and hope to be able to make a formal announcement by mid-November. At that time, of course, it will be possible (again) to register and buy tickets for the event here. The event will follow a very similar pattern to the event two years ago.

For those of you (and we hope it’s everyone) on Facebook, we have an event listing already. The news there will match the news you get here.

Hope to welcome in the new year with you!!!

Dėkojame visiem!

Autorius: Moacir @ 15:44

Thanks to everyone for coming out to Turkey Weekend this year! The concert was a success, as was Turkey Dance, and we hope to be able to provide you with more great entertainment next year!

I would like to thank Auksė and Justinas for busting ass these past few months to get everything into gear. Setting up the inCulto concert ended up being a 20+ hour a week job for the past two months, and it required the efforts of all three of us to make it happen. Thanks also to the people who staffed the concert: Krista, CE, Renė, Tini, and Aida, along with last minute helpers Aušra and Dainius. Thanks also to SlapJimmisBalls for warming up for inCulto, and to the fine officers of Hickory Hills for maintaining order. Hopefully we’ll be able to so this again next year.

Finally, thanks also go out to the people who helped make Turkey Dance a success, including the door workers—Laura, Rima, Indrė, Marius, Giedrė, Ray and Sig—and the innumerable mass of men who took a shift at the bar. I’m certain that no minors nor free drinks were served.

ČLJS is going into slumber mode now for a few months, letting Cleveland hog the spotlight for new year’s. After new year’s, it’ll be time to start planning to attend the JAVLJS Suvažiavimas in Memphis on January 26–28. See you around, and thanks again!

CLJS marškinėliai!

Autorius: Moacir @ 17:52

The Chicago chapter of the Lithuanian American Youth Association has opened the doors of its internet shop to sell their popular t-shirts to the whole world. With a credit card, you can order online, and we’ll ship to any corner of the world. The shirt is light blue. On the front is Vaiva Rimeika’s design of the Statue of Liberty wearing a traditional Lithuanian folk costume. On the rear is Povilas Pakuckas’s translation of the closing lines of Emma Lazarus’s poem “The New Colossus,” which is engraved on a bronze plaque in the statue’s pedestal. The shirts were a big hit at the most recent World Lithuanian Youth Congress, but we were short on supply.

The shirts cost only $10 (plus shipping fees), and you can order them online (or see their design) by following this link.

Kepta Duona recap

Autorius: Moacir @ 17:01

CLJS thanks everyone who came out last night for our first “Fried Bried and Football” event. About 50 people showed up at Duke’s, and then after three hours of eating and drinking, they all marched down to Toyota Park carrying a trispalvė and wearing the light blue CLJS shirts. There the crowd was treated to a nice soccer match, sadly going against the local team in the closing seconds of the match. Chivas USA defeated the Chicago Fire, 2–1 off a penalty in stoppage time.

The success of the event has guaranteed that CLJS will have something similar next year, so if you missed out this time, do not fret!

CLJS skelbia: „Kepta Duona ir Kamuoliai” 12.8.2006

Autorius: Moacir @ 12:18

Bus smagu! Užsiregistruoti galite išpildę šią anketą. Prašome užsiregistruoti iki rugp. 4!!! Bilietus išdalinsime Užeigoje.

Taip pat, CLJS pardavinės savo mėlynus marškinėlius. Sudarysime didelę melyną bangą Toyota Parke. Galėsite irgi nuspirkti marškinėlius kai nuspirksite bilietus. Marškinėlių priekis rodomas čia.

CLJS invites everyone to our “Kepta Duona ir Kamuoliai” (Fried Bread and Football) event on Saturday, 12 August, 2006.

The activities begin at 3:30pm at Duke’s (Kunigaikščių Užeiga). We’ll congregate, eat, drink, and merrily prepare for the mile trek (starting at 6:30) to TOYOTA PARK, where we’ll watch the Chicago Fire play Chivas USA.

Because Chivas USA is such a big draw in Chicago, we encourage all interested parties to register and buy tickets through our webpage as soon as possible. Tickets are $20, and we’ll sit in the fan-heavy “Firehouse” section. It’ll be a blast. You can register and buy your tickets by filling out this form. Please register by August 4! Tickets will be distributed at Duke’s.

Furthermore, CLJS will be selling their baby blue t-shirts so that we’ll make up a giant blue wave in Toyota Park. You’ll have the option of buying your t-shirts at the same time as you buy your tickets. For a view of the front of the shirt, please click this link.

Thanks Everyone!

Autorius: Moacir @ 13:03

CLJS—and its New Year’s Committee—wants to thank everyone who attended and helped with what was, by seemingly all currently known forms of measurement, an overwhelming success of a New Year’s Eve Banquet and weekend. We just covered our costs—losing only a little of the seed money with which we started out the whole process. Considering the last-minute upgrades to the menu and bar that our financial flexibility provided, we think it was a pretty small price to pay.

CLJS is undergoing some changes this year. First, Auksė Grigaliūnaitė is leaving her position as president. If you get a chance, thank Auksė first and foremost for the success of New Year’s, as well as the success of CLJS since she took the reins (officially) almost exactly five years ago. She’s masterminded five Turkey Weekends and numerous other events over the years. Furthermore, New Year’s was her baby through and through—she put in more work than anyone else, and without her desire to make a splash as a final gesture, we’d have never thought we could possibly throw an event like the one we’re all still recovering from. Auksė’s been diligent and thorough, and I can only hope that her replacement, Justinas Andriušis, keeps up the same level of engagement as Auskė has.

I (Moacir) am still sticking around in some capacity, and I am pretty excited about involving CLJS (via JAVLJS) at Kongresas this summer, and look forward to another successful year.

In case you want to thank people in specific, here they are:

Auksė Grigaliūnaitė (President): in charge of everything. Main liasion with hotel, and the one with the most to lose

Me (Iždininkas): in charge of the db, keeping track of money, and publicity

Justinas Andriušis (the New Guy): in charge of the band, party favors, press, security, and learning the ropes

Dainius Dumbrys (the Relief Pitcher): secondary hotel liasion/legal beagle, also in charge of the desserts (donated kindly by Racine Bakery)

Ingrida Latožaitė & Erikas Mikaitis (The Couple): Recruiting, centerpiece design, errand-running, assorted legwork

There were others who helped us out through the year with various tasks, who weren’t active members of the Committee. I run the risk of leaving people out by naming anyone in specific, but if you helped out, we appreciate it—either by assembling tables, pressuring friends, helping work at our other events, distributing publicity materials, or offering advice. It wasn’t five people who put this together. It was hundreds. And a giant hotel.

After the jump, I’m going to ruminate a bit on the New Year’s process, offering some insights to other LJSes, etc., should they want some tips or ideas or something of the sort. (more…)
